The launch of the website

Finally, the website has been published and thus my official journey begins. During these last few days I've been tangling with trying to get this website somewhat presentable, and as of now it's just a static piece of work with nothing fancy going on at all! But I think it will serve its purpose just fine for now.

So, the general idea of getting a website up and running at this stage is to try and reach out to people that are interested in game development and more specifically strategy management games!

With that said, the first thing I want to share regarding the progress I've made recently, apart from making this website, is the background image that you can see up on the top of the page. I don't know if you noticed, but the environment is shifting between the different seasons, and that's not something that I've photoshopped, it's all handled dynamically in the game at runtime. Well, I did photoshop together the four different snapshots that I took in the game but that's not the point I'm trying to make.

The way it works is that I have a weather manager object that determines the current season by just increasing a float value that ranges from 0 - 4. This way I can easily calculate the percentage of the current season, like 20% summer and 80% spring would be equal to 1.2. This would then allow me to easily set an appropriate colored tint in the material by simply setting the value in the materials shader. The goal I wanted to achieve here was to have a really smooth transition between the seasons without any sudden major change in the entire environment, becuase I think that it would break the immersion.

I will go into more details about how the entirety of the seasons system is working and how it's going to affect other parts of the game later. For now I can only say that the weather will play a significant role for the colony and you as the player will have to take that into consideration when making your decisions.

That's all I wanted to share for now, I certainly have a lot more features and plans that I want to show but that will come later. I will post more updates soon, so you're welcome to check back here later. Until then, have a nice day!
